LinkedIn has appointed Deepak Agarwal as its chief AI officer in an effort to strengthen its ongoing commitment to AI-driven innovation. Agarwal has over 24 years of experience in engineering and AI and has previously held leadership roles at Pinterest and Yahoo.
This marks Agarwal’s second tenure leading AI at LinkedIn. Earlier, as vice president of AI, he spearheaded the development of AI innovations that continue to underpin much of the platform’s operations today.
Agarwal expressed his excitement on LinkedIn: “I am thrilled to share that I’m joining LinkedIn as the company’s chief AI officer. My mission now is to push the boundaries of what’s possible—ensuring our AI solutions are cutting-edge, ethical, inclusive, and empathetic.”
He further mentioned that LinkedIn’s history of embracing AI to connect professionals, empower businesses, and foster growth is well-documented. From personalising user experiences to fostering meaningful professional relationships, AI is central to LinkedIn’s vision.
LinkedIn’s AI-Powered Features
Last year, LinkedIn Recruiter, a platform for hiring professionals, rolled out the AI-generated messages feature. It creates personalised InMail messages for potential candidates using their LinkedIn profile data, aiming to reduce generic, impersonal outreach that often gets flagged as spam.
In 2023, the platform introduced a feature that allows users to generate AI-based posts using concise 30-word prompts. With just an outline of the content in the designated post section, the generative AI system produces an initial draft within seconds, which can be edited, reviewed or enhanced before posting.
Moreover, LinkedIn has also launched an AI-powered tool to aid marketers.
